Biological Diagnostic Supplies Ltd. (BDSL) is a small, privately owned company, established in 1990 to supply specialist
laboratory equipment into markets of the developing world. We now sell into over fifty countries, mainly in the developing
world, and a high percentage of our business involves selling into international aid projects, with major customers being UN
aid agencies such as the International Atomic Energy Agency, Food and Agriculture Organisation, and World Health Organisation,
and funding agencies such as European Union and African Development Bank. We maintain regular and active contact with these and
other IGOs and INGOs.
Our core business is the supply of veterinary diagnostic kits for detecting specific diseases
in animals. Supply of such kits is based on exclusive collaboration agreements with the Institute
for Animal Health in UK, National Veterinary Institute in France and National Institute for Communicable
Diseases in South Africa. We are also the exclusive distributor in Africa for the range of Svanova veterinary
diagnostic kits. Our portfolio of exclusive kits is constantly expanding on the basis of new kits developed from
our partners' research work, and through new contacts established with veterinary institutes elsewhere in
the world. The kits available now cover a number of diseases that affect both animals and humans. Our secondary
tier of business is the supply of specialist equipment necessary for the use of these kits, and we also supply
general laboratory equipment from a large extensive supply catalogue that is available on-line. So BDSL offers a
complete package of laboratory goods for veterinary end-users and other scientific institutions.
In many markets of Africa, the Middle East and Near East we work closely with specialist agents who assist
with delivery arrangements, customs clearance and after-sales service. At BDSL we take pride in a strong
reputation for customer and after-sales service in so many markets of the developing world, believing that a
small company as laboratory equipment supplier can offer a much more effective and flexible service than many
large companies. Over fourteen years we have built up a specialist expertise in shipping goods to what are
acknowledged to be difficult markets. This is based on a close working relationship with a skilled forwarding company.
We are constantly seeking opportunities to expand our product range to complement our core business in
veterinary diagnostic kits. We have responsibility for sales of the Invitrogen tissue culture product range
in the Middle East and Africa, as well as being the exclusive distributor in Africa for the range of Svanova
veterinary diagnostic kits.
